A Canadian Man Ate Too Many Edibles, Hijacked A Car And Crashed Into A Police Cruiser

Ontario Man Faces Lengthy List of Criminal Charges After Edible High Gone Wrong

If you’ve ever gotten high from edibles, you know the uncontrollable high you get from them – you say the wildest things, you act out of character, and yet, you feel like you’re sinking into your couch. It’s a great experience, to say the least.

But one Ontario man took his edible high a little too far in a case that made national news in Canada.

Kristopher Charles Mitchell, 41, ignored the common mantra that goes with taking edibles: go low and slow. The Brantford, ON, man found himself in police custody after they received reports of a traffic disruption – and police found something out of the ordinary.

According to a press release, Mitchell had consumed enough cannabis via edibles to be “heavily intoxicated.” Community patrol officers informed the police that hey spotted a vehicle driving in an “extremely dangerous and erratic manner,” leaving multiple vehicles with no choice but to swerve to avoid a collision. The driver was – you guessed it – Mitchell.

He also drove across several lawns in a residential neighbourhood “in a manner with a complete disregard for public safety” – as if there’s a way to do that with a regard for safety.

After Mitchell took a sharp turn into a parking lot, the police blocked the exits, hoping to corner Mitchell. Things went from bad to worse. He then proceeded to form an escape attempt. He collided with a marked police cruiser, which caused “substantial damage” to both the cruiser and his own vehicle. He was then taken into custody, where he tried to resist arrest.

If Mitchell’s story wasn’t already messy enough, listen to this: police learned that Mitchell was driving a vehicle that he had hijacked. The actual owner of the vehicle was allegedly injured after being assaulted, forcibly torn from his vehicle, and “subsequently dragged” by Mitchell.

So, where does Mitchell’s wild night end? He’s facing a ton of charges: Theft of Motor Vehicle, Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Dangerous Operation of a Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm, Dangerous Operation of a Vehicle, Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm, Impaired Driving by Drug, Flight from Police (two counts!), Failure to Stop After Accident, Robbery, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of Stolen Property.

We can’t stress enough how important it is to “go slow and low” with edibles. That means taking small doses and ingesting them slowly, because that innocent-looking bite-sized brownie can do quite a bit of damage. Just ask Mitchell.
