With self-isolation and social distancing becoming the new normal for most of us as the Coronavirus continues wreaking havoc, what better way to cope with all this chaos and escape reality for a bit than to chill out with your best bud and a good movie? No, we’re not talking about human friends here, that would be irresponsible. We’re talking about the one friend that will never let you down and is always a good time – cannabis.
While classic stoner flicks like Up in Smoke and Pineapple Express tend to top most lists, a good stoner movie doesn’t actually have to be about getting high. If you think about it, if you’re baked enough, anything can be a good stoner film. And with boredom levels at an all-time high (see what we did there?), why not think outside of the box when it comes to your Netflix and toke lineup.

The Big Lebowski
Widely regarded as the Citizen Kane of stoner films, did you really think we’d get through this list without mentioning the Dude? There’s really no better way to enjoy your next high than to watch the ultimate stoner anti-hero stumbling through life perma-stoned with White Russian in hand as he battles a case of mistaken identity and bowls with his crew of offbeat sidekicks. Need we say more?
Inception
While usually, a complex mind-bending plot may not be everyone’s cup of tea when they’re high, just hear us out on this one. Inception is the kind of movie that blows your mind and makes you rethink everything you’ve ever known while sober, so imagine what it would be like watching it high as a kite?
Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle
While kind of an obvious choice, you can’t really go wrong with any film in the Harold & Kumar franchise. While you’re stuck at home, why not live vicariously through the antics of Harold and Kumar and follow along on their hilarious quest to get some munchies?
Beavis and Butthead Do America
Relive some childhood nostalgia and laugh you’re a** off with some good old fashion stupid comedy that drove your parents crazy when you were younger. Simply put – Beavis and Butthead Do America is classic 90s comedy gold that is guaranteed to bring lots of laughs, whether your stoned or not (but is probably better stoned).
Interstellar
Another surprising pick, Interstellar, is one of those rare films that may just be better when stoned.
With stunning visuals and a powerful exploration of space, time, relativity, and the power of the human spirit, this movie is a great choice if you enjoy getting intensely philosophical when you’re stoned.
Napoleon Dynamite
The epitome of dry, quotable, deadpan comedy, re-watching Napoleon Dynamite while stoned is an experience on its own. Trust us when we say you’ll be laughing so hard that you’ll end up in the deep hole of Amazon trying rush order ‘Vote for Pedro’ t-shirts halfway through the film.
Dude, Where’s My Car
Perhaps the most underrated film on this list, Dude Where’s My Car, was torn to shreds by critics upon its release back in 2000 but has since found its place in the hearts of stoners around the world, and for good reason. With cheesy acting and an absurd, head-scratching plotline, it’s safe to say that the only way to enjoy this film is by getting high. But we like to think it was just ahead of its time.
Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny
Five words: Jack Black playing a slacker. What more do you need? Focusing on two wannabe rock stars and their supernatural quest to get famous by stealing a magic guitar pick, this film will produce lots of laughs, but still has an easy to follow plot that doesn’t require too much brain energy.
