The Five Types of Stoners in Every Friend Group

Different Stoner Personality Types

Smoking weed recreationally can lead you into meeting some of the most interesting people, including eccentric characters, goofballs, and thought-provokers. Some of us find that weed brings out the best parts of ourselves, while others transform into brand new people when high. These five personality types are common in friend groups that get high together – can you think of anyone who fits into these labels?

The Naturalist

The naturalist is a classic kind of a stoner. Typically, they’ll have flowing hair, a tranquil vibe, and a knack for knowledge about weed – especially the nature side of it. If you check your weed to see if it’s free from pesticides, or only smoke cannabis that was grown ethically, you’re probably a naturalist.

Friend groups who have a naturalist can expect fun facts about weed’s scientific traits, and maybe an acoustic guitar performance or two.

The Gearhead

Think of the gearhead like a “tech bro” (or gal!) The gearhead is interested in all of the latest technological developments that pertain to weed. New strains, new bongs, and trendy vaporizers that let you calibrate the temperature: the gearhead’s got it all.

Friend groups who have a gearhead can expect to be kept up to date with the cannabis industry’s latest tools, trends, and developments. If anyone’s in the know, it’s the gearhead.

The Heavy-Hitter

Everyone’s tolerance for weed is different. But you’ll always come across that one person who seems to have a shockingly high tolerance for big bong rips and fat dabs without looking high at all. That’s the heavy-hitter.

A heavy-hitter doesn’t waste time or energy on things that won’t give them the greatest high possible. Don’t be intimidated, though. Since heavy-hitters know what they’re doing, they’ll usually be happy to share their advice on how to consume such strong weed while keeping it together.

The Novice

Perhaps the sheer opposite of the heavy-hitter is the novice. We were all a novice once, and some of us start smoking weed later than others. Meanwhile, some smoke weed infrequently and basically feel like a new guest at the party every time they dabble in consuming the plant.

It’s important not to patronize the novice. A good group of stoner friends will give the novice appropriate advice and instruction, and act in a trustworthy manner. After all, you wouldn’t want your first high to be ruined by a lousy group of malicious stoners, right?

Sometimes, the novice can shock you, and right before your eyes, they’ll bloom into a naturalist, a gearhead, or a heavy-hitter. And one day, they may become the last kind of stoner on our list.

The Oldhead

You gotta pay respect to the OGs. That’s where the oldhead comes in. These folks have been getting high for longer than you’ve been alive, and they remember decades worth of cannabis culture.

Friend groups with an oldhead may become frustrated with hearing about how the older generation did it better. But listen to the oldhead, because nobody has better stories to tell than them.
