Cartoon Characters From Your Childhood That Were Totally Stoners

Top 5 Cartoon Shows With Stoner Characters

When you were a kid, it’s likely that the cartoons you were watching exposed you to some of the weirdest characters imaginable: a sponge that flipped burgers under the sea, a boy with a foster home filled with imaginary friends, and two kids that hung out with the grim reaper.

At a young age, you probably saw these characters at face value. But now that you’re older and you’ve fallen in love with weed, you’d probably see these characters in a different light. There’s no way some of these cartoon personalities weren’t total stoners.

Scooby & Shaggy – Scooby Doo

This one’s a doozy – Shag and Scoob are the most obvious stoners in cartoon history. Their dopey approach to mystery-solving matches up with what any stoner would do in the same situation. Plus, there’s no way Scooby Snacks aren’t actually just edibles (or Shaggy and Scooby’s favourite munchies snack).

The biggest giveaway, though, is in the 2002 live-action film, in which Shaggy falls in love with a girl named Mary Jane. As you’d guess: Shaggy LOVES Mary Jane.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Leonardo, Michelango, Donatello and Raphael – the perfect group to get high with?

These goofy comic book heroes hit screens in the 80s with an animated TV show and a live-action film series in the 90s. The turtles are known for busting crime in New York City, while spending their time off in the sewers eating pizza and cracking jokes.

Ironically, the turtles were featured in a famous anti-drug ad urging children to stay away from pot. The ad suggests you opt to “get a pizza” instead of getting high…but we all know the turtles would probably do both.

Patrick Star (from Spongebob)

We’ve never been high enough to ask if mayonnaise is an instrument, but something tells us that Spongebob’s best buddy likes to dabble in a bit of ganja.

Patrick lives under a rock, loves eating and sleeping, and is lazy. Sure, these might be harsh stereotypes that stoners are used to facing, but you’ve gotta admit: Patrick’s life is a stoner’s dream.

Dopey – Snow White and the Seven Dwarves

As if his name isn’t a dead giveaway, Dopey is a total pothead! This loveably dimwitted dwarf is often the butt of everyone’s jokes. He also never speaks, instead hiccupping, squeaking and grumbling. Perhaps he’s so high that he can’t form words anymore.

Jude Lizowksi (6Teen)

Nothing brings a wave of nostalgia to Canadian millennials like 6Teen. This Friends-style show was a massive hit in the 2000s. It followed a six-person friend group at the fictional “Galleria Mall.”

One of them is Jude, a long-haired skater bro whose love of extreme sports and thrills contrast his chill vibe. Jude’s constant laughter and visible, slow thinking makes us think that he’s high 24/7.

Those are our picks, but there are bound to be tons of other not-so-kid-friendly cartoons floating around. So, next time you’re feeling nostalgic, pay close attention to some of your favourite cartoon characters. You may find them more relatable than you remember.
